How cathode ray cause reducing effect explain with an example ?

Reduction is process when substance receives electrons. Cathode rays consist mainly of electrons, they ionize substance, this leads to reduction.
Any ions produced are collect by an ion trap in the tube therefore anything the beam of electrons hits is going to gain electrons.
