Markonikov's addition of water to olefins in presence of sulphuric acid might give this product: CH3-CH2-CH2-C(CH3)=CH-CH3 + H2O -----> CH3-CH2-CH2-C(CH3)(OH)-CH2-CH3 3-methyl-2-hexene + H2O ----------> 3-hydroxy-3-methyl hexane C7H14 + H2O ----------> C7H16O
This is correct, except the name of the original hydrocarbon in the
reaction is 3-methyl-2-hexene because the double bond begins on the
second carbon atom, not the first.
