Explain why water left in a glass will evaporate very slowly while the same quantity of water soaked in a cloth suspended out in the sun will take only a few hours to evaporate.

A cloth consists of many fibers, so the total surface area of water in a cloth is much bigger than one in a glass. A substance that has a larger surface area will evaporate faster, as there are more surface molecules that are able to escape
