Answer to Question #89620 in General Chemistry for Madison Martins

Question #89620
CaCl2 (s) + 6 H2O (g) ⟶ CaCl2(H2O)6 (s)
1. Calcium chloride (CaCl2), the active ingredient in desiccant products, hydrates with (traps)
up to 6 molecules of water. Use Table 5.4 to calculate the amount of calcium chloride (CaCl2)
required to remove all the water vapor in a room 70,000 L in volume when the temperature is
30 °C.
2. Propose a simple method to recover the water from the calcium chloride hydrate
(CaCl2(H2O)6) used in the previous questions.
3. If the recovered vapor of water (H2O) from the previous question is placed inside of a 20 L
container, what would be the pressure inside of the container?
4. Calculate the total volume of the recovered water (H2O) at 4 °C.
