The Johnson family decided to spend their weekend at their local conservation park. In order to enjoy the warm weather, they brought their bicycles. As they biked throughout the area, the youngest son – Jacob Johnson – tripped over a rock. When he got back on his bike, he noticed that the tire was flat. Luckily, the father – John – had a bicycle pump on hand that he used to revive the cycle. How did he do this? What gas law is applied here to explain this phenomenon?

This phenomenon can be described by Boyle-Mariotti's mitigating law: at constant temperature, the volume of a constant quantity of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure. When you push the pressure down a certain number of times, the volume decreases as much times. It is more convenient to use Boyle-Mariotte's law in the following entry: P1V1 = P2V2
