The valence electrons of the carbon in the above structure is 6 instead of 8 which makes it incorrect.


Valence electrons of HCN = 1+4+5=10


C will be in the middle because it's less electronegative than the N and H on the other side because it's always on the outside. The valence electrons of the elements must be octet for carbon and nitrogen and duplet for hydrogen. Please check the attached file to understand
