c) A technician had two bottles containing solid salts. One bottle contained Potassium
Chloride (KCl) and the other contained Sodium Chloride (NaCl). Unfortunately, the labels
had fallen off from the bottles. Explain how, the technician could find out which bottle
contains KCl and which bottle contains NaCl.
(i). dip a clean wire loop into a solid sample of the compound being tested.
(ii). put the loop into the edge of the blue flame from a Bunsen burner.
(iiI). observe and record the flame colour produced.
Sodium chloride and potassium chloride will distinguish by using the flame test. Flame test is useful to determine the difference between one element and another. Sodium chloride obtained yellow flame, Potassium chloride obtained violet flame. Due to flame colors he will distinguish the difference of these salts.
