Question #176227

Let elements A and B form two compounds AwBx and AyBz where w,x,y and z are small whole numbers, Let the relative atomic masses of A and B be 'a' and 'b' , respectively find the mass ratio of the compounds?

Expert's answer

AwBx-> wA + xB

AyBz -> yA + zB

Compound 1 = w moles of A

x moles of B

Compound 2 = y moles of A

z moles of B

= w moles of A in compound 1/ y moles of A in compound 2 = w/y

Mass ratio of A = wa : ya

= x moles of B in compound 1/z moles of B in compound 2 = x/z

Mass ratio of B = xb : zb
