Answer to Question #150906 in General Chemistry for Lyna Moinifar

Question #150906

Calculate the work done (in Joules) during the hydrogenation of acetylene in which the volume of the gases changes from 32.30 L to 10.77 L at a constant pressure of 22.83 atm and temperature.

C 2H 2(g) + 2 H 2(g) ↔ C 2H 6(g)

The product of pressure and volume change should give units of L*atm. It can be shown that 1 L*atm = 101 J.

W=p∆V= 22.83 x 21.53 = 491.53.

491.53 x 101 = 49644.5199 J.
