Answer to Question #145747 in General Chemistry for Railey

Question #145747
One of the lecture demonstrations showed 8 ice cubes
melting on an aluminum block in the same time needed
to melt one cube on a Styrofoam block. If an ice cube
has an average mass of 30.6 grams, and each starts at
–10.0 °C, how much heat (in kJ) transferred through the
aluminum block to melt all 8 cubes to H2O(l) at 0.0 °C?

H= mcΔt + mL

= 30.6 × ×4.18×10 + (30.6 × 334)

= 1279.08 + 10220.4

= 11499.78J

= 11.5KJ
