Question #136155
A child releases a 6.25L helium balloon in the parking lot of an amusement park where the temperature is 28.50oC and the air pressure is 757.2mmHg, what will be the volume of the balloon when it has risen to an altitude where the temperature is -34.35oC and the air pressure is 366.4mmHg?
Answer
P1V1/T1=P2V2/T2
P1=Initial pressure
V1= Initial Volume
T1= Initial temperature in Kelvin
P2= Final pressure
V2= Final temperature in Kelvin
T2= Final temperature in Kelvin
P1V1/ T1 = P2V2/ T2
V2 = (P1V1 T2) ÷ P2 T1
= (757.2mmHg×6.25L×238.65K) ÷ (366.4mmHg×301.5K
= 10.2L
