Question #123118

I work in a plant (electrolysis) for the production of sodium hypochlorite. The problem I have is that recently the concentration of sodium hypochlorite has dropped a lot. We produce it with a concentration of 15.5% and within 24 hours the concentration drops to 12%.We have optimal storage conditions. Can you tell me where we have the problem?

Expert's answer

Sodium hypochlorite does degrade over time.

The degradation of sodium hypochlorite is proportional to its concentration. Stronger concentrations

degrade faster than more dilute ones.
