The life cycle of angiosperm includes sporophyte and gametophyte, whereas sporophyte dominates in the life cycle of angiosperm plants. Flowers that are formed on sporophyte represent highly specialized organs of reproduction, whereas gametophyte is formed. In monoecious plants, both male and female plants are produced on the same plant (i.e., corn). As a result, male gametophyte consisting of a sperm cell in a pollen grain is produced in the male flower, whereas female gametophyte represented by eggs inside the flower ovary is formed in the female flower, whereas both flowers are located on the same plant. Following the pollination (transfer of a pollen grain to the female flower), the fertilization occurs. This is a process of the fusion of female and male gametes with the production of a diploid zygote within an ovule in the ovary. The zygote forms an embryo inside a seed produced from the ovule.
