What is the difference between DNA fingerprinting and gel electrophoresis?
DNA fingerprinting is the process of determining an individual's DNA characteristics for comparing two or more DNA samples. DNA fingerprinting may use restriction fragment length polymorphism, short tandem repeats analysis, amplified fragment length polymorphism, etc. Gel electrophoresis provides the visualisation of the length of DNA fragments. This is a procedure of the separation of DNA according to its length. As a result, gel electrophoresis is one of the procedures used in the process of DNA fingerprinting.
