According to the fossil records, The earliest anthropoid primate (ancestor of monkeys, apes, and humans) comes from the Fayum region in Egypt, in the early Oligocene Epoch (30 million years ago). The anthropoid primates had postorbital closure, large brains, and fused mandibular symphysis. It was suggested, that eosimiids and amphipithecids are earlier families of anthropoids from Asia who colonized North Africa approximately 39 million years ago.
