Holophytic is a plant-type nutrition, when an organism produces its own food. Holozoic is an animal-type nutrition, when an organism digests larger organic molecules into the smaller ones. Holotropic nutrition is observed in animals, and it consists of ingestion of material through the mouth with further break down of larger molecules into the smaller ones. It is observed in all vertebrates and some invertebrates. It is not applicable to animals, which obtain nutrients by absorbing them through the integument. However, such animals are still holozoic.
