One way in which Enlightenment ideas changed political thought in Europe in the period after 1750 was the way in which people began to stand up to the church and their monarchies. Enlightenment ideas such as John Locke’s natural rights made people want that for their governments, and people wanted a say in government. The new ideas that emerge in the Enlightenment were methods or natural science should be user in everyday life, scientific method, and progress.
