Enlightenment helped to fight the excesses of the church, establish science as a source of knowledge, and protect human rights against tyranny. Enlightenment also gave society of modern education, medicine, republic representative democracy among others. Kent's philosophy describes enlightenment as a rational being that had both an innate right to freedom and duties to enter into a civil condition government by social contract to realize and preserve that freedom.
