Describe and apply the following theoretical explanations (e.g. hypodermic syringe model, inoculation model, two-step flow model) of the relationship between the media and its audiences and how it manifested during the pandemic: Reference (about 100-200 words).
The hypodermic syringe model argues that an immediate and direct effect can be achieved by the media on the audience. Meaning the audience believes what they see and hear in the media without question. During the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, the audience believed the media regarding which country the virus had reached and the number of people affected. With the inoculation model, resistance to persuasion is built, and individuals have the opportunity to defend their beliefs. During the pandemic, there is a counterargument regarding the place of origin and cause of the virus. Some believe it is China (Wuhan), and others believe it is the United States. The two-step flow model on the other hand believes that the best way to shape public opinion is through interpersonal communication. This has been witnessed during the rolling out of the vaccine during the pandemic. Different individuals and organizations have had discussions on the benefits and possible side effects of the vaccine.
