Health disparities are systematic, avoidable, and unjust discrepancies in health outcomes that can be found between populations, between social groupings within the same population, or as a social position gradient across a population.
In Southern Africa, gender inequality has a significant impact on children's lives. In most parts of life, social standards favor boys over girls, and there is a strong association between a child's gender and their ability to realize their rights and reach their full potential. For women and other oppressed genders, gender injustice has substantial and long-term effects. Anxiety, despair, low self-esteem, and PTSD can all be caused by exposure to violence, objectification, discrimination, and socioeconomic disparity.
