South Africa setting requires a conflict perspective when it comes to illness and health. Since capitalist society are inherent as a social disability an argument in healthcare system. Conflict and functionalism are two important aspect in sociology as they can be examined to know how a society functions and produces. The main differences between conflict theory and functionalism is that conflict theory states a society is at risk of class conflict as a result of unequal distribution of resources and limitations whereas functionalism states society serves a purpose and there is need for survival in each aspect.
