What is the main idea of the closest a dangerous hateronormative space
'The closet: A dangerous heteronormative space' main idea is the existing false belief in society that heterosexuality is the preferred sexual orientation. The gender binary is assumed with heteronormativity regarding gender identity, and liberation from this belief is necessary. It dictates what is acceptable in a closet of an individual. Additionally, it does not acknowledge differences among individuals such as gays. The heterosexual order makes individuals fear revealing their gayness as it could result in homophobic abuse. Despite liberal gays' view that revealing their gayness will liberate them from heterosexism constraints, they still risk homophobic attacks. What needs to be done is to reflect, and view ‘the closet’ as a sexual and social heteronormative construct, in order to resist and question prejudicial assumptions.
