Explain existentialism to a 6 year child

Existentialism is a deep way of thinking. It sees humans, with will and consciousness, as being in a world of objects which do not have those qualities. The fact that humans are conscious of their mortality, and must make decisions about their life is what existentialism is all about. It is the understanding that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. Our individual purpose and meaning is not given to us by Gods, governments, teachers or other authorities.
