Elite theory is a state theory that attempts to define and explain power dynamics in modern society. According to the idea, a tiny group of people, mainly from the economic elite and policy-making networks, has the most power independent of democratic elections. For example, African, Coloured, and Indian professionals, traders, intellectuals, and faith-based organizations made up the African nationalist elite in South Africa. It enlisted the help of the working class, peasants, youth, and students to fight for their right to share in the country's riches.
