1.     Gender-based violence is the world's most widespread yet least visible human rights violation. It comprises harm perpetrated on a person as a result of socially attributed power disparities between males and females, such as physical, sexual, mental, or economic harm. It's when someone gets violently attacked because of their gender.

2.     Injuries, untimed/unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, pelvic pain, urinary tract infections, fistula, genital injuries, pregnancy difficulties, and chronic illnesses are among health repercussions of violence against women. Physical, psychological, and/or social suffering may come from gender-based violence. Gender-based violence survivors may face severe psychological trauma, sadness, panic, guilt, shame, and a loss of self-esteem. Rather to face the burden of societal humiliation, some survivors commit themselves. They may become socially isolated in many societies because they are considered as unmarriable or lacking in morality or honor. The health of men, boys, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and other gender non-binary people who survive gender-based violence is less well understood. When compared to cisgender sexual minorities, gender minorities face much higher levels of violence.

3.     Reducing violence against women and girls necessitates a multifaceted, community-based approach as well as a long-term commitment from a variety of stakeholders. Systemic violence risk factors, such as gender and acceptance standards, are addressed in the most successful programs. At various levels, changing attitudes about harmful practices is critical. Religious leaders, medical professionals, and ex-practitioners in South Africa are banding together to put an end to FGM, which affects as many as 93 percent of women in some areas. Girls in the community are now getting empowered to combat this harmful tradition.
