Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, also known as Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela and Nkosikazi Nobandle Nomzamo Madikizela, was a South African social worker and activist who was born on September 26, 1936, in Bizana, Pondoland district, Transkei [now in Eastern Cape], South Africa, and died on April 2, 2018, in Johannesburg, South Africa. She was Nelson Mandela's second wife, whom she divorced in 1992 because her erratic behavior and unbridled militancy alienated other anti-apartheid campaigners, including her husband. Makobo Modjadji VI (Makobo Caroline Modjadji; 1978 – June 12, 2005) was the sixth Rain Queen of the Balobedu tribe.

Makobo Modjadji is said to have possessed the power to manipulate the clouds and rivers. As a result, she became the Balobedu tribe's youngest Queen. Madikizela-Mandela was the one who reminded the nation and the world of the need of fighting racial injustice against Africans. She stayed on the front lines of the liberation struggle, not just for political prisoners but also for the 40 million Black and people of color who made up South Africa's population.
