Comparing the Utopian and dystopian views of Technology according to Street (1992)
The Utopian position is premised mainly on the idea that the communication medium is paramount in defining the impacts of technology on society. According to streets 1992, the communication actions that occur due to internet interaction can limit the subversion of contemplative democracy rather than market-driven imperatives. Unlike a Utopian perspective that focuses on the effect of technology on the community. The Dystopian position concentrates on understanding the phenomena of the event instead of perceiving the internet barely as a tool. However, the dystopian position articulates how the medium is capable of influencing communication in a way that alters communication practices and space that had earlier nurtured democracy
