Discuss 3 factors that are responsible for the underrepresentation of women in I.T in Ghana and barriers exist for women in this field.
To begin with a socio-cultural factor, socialization in Ghana has confined women to specific special domestic roles at home. Socialization has encouraged women to assume the domestic and family roles making them to avoid I.T. as opposed to their male counterparts, the socialization controls their decision, making them to avoid I.T or limit themselves in I.T.
Secondly, women’s personal factors have also led to under-representation of women in I.T. Many women in Ghana are unwilling to climb the career ladder and take part in new careers such as I.T. Women seem so reluctant in doing what women has been doing over the years, hence women make no or limited attempts to involve in new ideas and careers such as I.T.
Thirdly, there is inadequate empowerment of women in Ghana. There is inadequate financial support and affirmative initiatives by organizations making women to fight for themselves to take part in challenging careers like I.T that need all kinds of support.
