Explain how each of Darley and Latane’s experiments: (1) the fake seizure and (2) the smoke filled room help explain the bystander effect and diffusion of responsibility.
Darley and Latané came to the conclusion that those who believed they were alone with the victim intervened when the victim was having a seizure because they felt the most pressure to help because the consequences of not helping (guilt and shame) were all on their shoulders; thus, they quickly resolved their conflict.
