a) Diets and medical services influence the secular trend phenomenon.
Secular trend phenomenon refers to a situation where the average age of puberty is decreasing over time. Changes in the daily macronutrient intake by children have been studied over the past half-century to determine the effects of such changes on a child's healthy growth and development and they contribute to the health problems facing today's children include their sedentary lifestyle, irregular intake of meals (especially skipping breakfast), and the increasing daily ratio of fat to total energy intake which lead to influence on the secular trend phenomenon. Currently, young children have been subjected to medical services that alter their secular trend such as chemotherapy.
b) Exercise and sport participation have an effect on maturation.
Maturation is the process of learning to cope and react in an emotionally appropriate way. It does not necessarily happen along with ageing or physical growth but is a part of growth and development. Physical activities such as exercises and sports activities promote healthy growth and development. It helps build a healthier body composition, stronger bones and muscles. It also improves the child's cardiovascular fitness. Physical activities help in the development of better motor skills and in concentration and thinking skills which aid in maturation.
