How does the hippocampus aid in the processing and storage of memories?
Hippocampus makes part of the limbic system. It plays a crucial role of consolidating information from the short-term memory to long-term memory. Hippocampus also enables navigation in the spatial memory. initially, the hippocampus reduces information coming from the cerebral cortex and turns them into small distinctive pieces of memory. As a result, the memory pieces are transmitted to the region called CA3 for storage.
