Explain how the number of known defects remaining in a program at the time of delivery effects product support?

Sometimes such defects can remain known but they don't show themselves, i.e. the probability that users will face these defects is very low, thus, an organization can decide that such defects can be ignored. But if the defects are significant, product support can become unavailable, because fixing these defects will require much money ant time.
