Explain why problems with support software might mean that an organization has to replace it's legacy systems?

Legacy systems may seem very comfortable and useful for a majority of users, but since technologies develop day after day, some machines can no longer run that software. That is why usually organizations notice that supporting legacy systems on old machines with outdated hardware and software is much more expensive than replacing legacy systems with new hardware and/or software.
