- Personal computers are mainly used for personal use by the owner of the computer such as storing personal files & items.
- Public computers are meant to be used by the public literally usually has limited privileges and dictates what a user can do in a machine.
classification by purpose:
- Microcomputers are computers designed with a micro processor usually smaller than in mini computers. e.g. laptops
- Minicomputers are larger than a microcomputer but smaller than mainframe computer.
- Mainframe computers are powerful computers able to manage multiple simultaneous tasks hence capable of handling & processing very large amounts of data in large institutions where continuous and sustained operations are vital.
- Supercomputers have far much greater processing power than any other computer of its day; it is usually at the forefront in terms of processing power. Useful when performing highly intense numerical calculations such as nuclear computations, weather forecasting
