Should chiefs be part of our local governance and if so what should be their role in the local governance.
Chiefs should be included in our local governance because the chieftaincy institution is still recognizable to local citizens and viewed as governance at their doorstep. Chiefs are revered as icons and administrators of community ethics, justice, and security, as well as keeper of traditional values, particularly in rural communities. As a result, the chief's palace serves as a hub for local democracy and governance. Their role should be to advise any person or authority charged with any responsibility under the constitution or any other law for matters relating to or affecting chieftancy, to evaluate traditional customs and usages with the goal of eliminating those customs and usages that are out of date and socially harmful, and to perform any other functions that are not in conflict with any other function.
