Explain the mandate of the Constitution of India towards Women.
The Constitution of India mandates the principles of equality before law and equal protection of laws to women and also empowers the state to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favor of women in a bid to neutralize the cumulative educational, political and socioeconomic disadvantages they face. Some of the main privileges granted to women by the Constitution of India include: provision for securing justice and humane conditions of work and for maternity relief, renouncing practices derogatory to the dignity of women, reservation of not less than a third of the total seats for women in Panchayats and municipalities etc.
