The federal government is a government of limited powers.Therefore, this means it can only exercise those powers offered to it by the constitution. Conversely, the state government pre-dates the constitution and hence it does not get its powers from the constitution. However, the states are entitled to restrictions imposed by the constitution.Concerning a similarity, both the state government and the federal government have authority to create and enforce laws, impose taxes, borrow finances, and regulate banks.
