if we were to build a space ship to travel to the stars today, and i know we would not,
with todays technology how fast could we get it to travel

The maximum velocity humans are capable to achieve in open space is 35000 or so with live passengers And 160000mph without live passengers. But some plasma rockets were able to reach 500000 mph.
