Answer to Question #262815 in Physics for HAMBA IVAN

Question #262815

1) For a certain plane wave traveling through air, the maximum value of the excess or

acoustic pressure is 0.1 dyne cm-2. If the frequency is 1000 cycles sec-1, and the

density of air is 1.29 X10-3 gcm-3, find:

(i) the maximum particle displacement.

(ii) the maximum particle velocity.

(iii) the maximum condensation.

(iv) the maximum dilatation.

2) Two plane waves are traveling along the x-axis. The particle displacements due to

the separate waves are given by

Z1 = Zm cos k(-x + ct):

Z2 = -Zm cos k(x + ct):

For the two waves, at the position x = 0, find the relative phase of

(i) Z1 compared with Z2.

(ii) velocity of Z1 compared with velocity of Z2.

(iii) p1 compared with p2.
