a friend ask to borrow your precious diamond for a day to show their family. you are a bit worried, so you carefully have your diamond weighed on a scale which reads 8.17 grams. the scales accuracy is claimed to be +-0.05 grams. the next day, you weigh the returned diamond again, getting 8.09 grams. is this your diamond? justify your claim.
There may be different answers.
1) This can be my diamond, but the friend somehow took a small piece of it. Why? Assume the real weight is 8.12 g. When we weighed the diamond, it was 8.12+0.05=8.17 g (we add the accuracy)
2) This can be another diamond because its mass is smaller than the range of mass within the scales' accuracy.
