Answer to Question #230039 in Physics for Moitheri Malelu

Question #230039

determine the percentage sand, silt and clay of two soils analysed by the hydrometer method. The oven dry mass of the soil is 50g. Calgon Hydrometer readings: 40s = 10g/l (14°C) 2 h = 10g/l (15°C)

Hydrometer readings: 40 sec 35g/l (14°C) 2 h 18.14g/l (16°C)

calculate:

Temperature corrected reading,

Calgon corrected reading and

Corrected hydrometer reading

% silt and clay = 100 x corrected 40s reading / oven dry weight of soil sample (g) % sand = 100 – (% silt and clay)
