We all know the rule:
ayax=ax−y.Consider this:
2y2x=2x−y.Now, consider this:
2x2x=2x−x=20.
But what is 2x/2x?
According to the definition of power x:
2x=2⋅2⋅2⋅...⋅2⋅2 (the number of 2 used is x).
So, since we take the same number of 2s and divide it by the equal number of 2, we divide a value by itself, which gives 1. Thus, 20=1.
