Question #99347

One mile of a mono atomic gas is taken from an initial pressure P and volume v to final pressure 2p and volume 2v by isothermal expansion and compression show the path in PV diagram and calculate the work done and energy absorbed by the gas?

Expert's answer

For isothermal process, temperature is constant, thus the heat and energy and work done are equal due to no change in internal energy

and given by W=Pi Vi ln(Vf/Vi)

Since

Vf=2Vi

Thus W=Pi Vi ln(2)

or,

W=RTln(2)
