Answer to Question #263851 in Molecular Physics | Thermodynamics for long

Question #263851

(a) Find a conversion factor to convert from miles per hour to kilometers per hour. (b) In

the past, a federal law mandated that highway speed limits would be 55 mi/h. Use the

conversion factor of part (a) to find this speed in kilometers per hour. (c) The maximum

highway speed is now 65 mi/h in some places. In kilometers per hour, how much increase

is this over the 55 mi/h limit?

to convert miles to kilometres, you multiply the numerical value of the distance by 1.609

(a)

"\\therefore" kilometres/hour = 1.609 miles/hour

(b) (i)

55 mi/h = (55×1.609) × km/h = 88.045 km/h

(ii)

the increase in the maximum speed is -> 65 miles - 55 miles = 10 miles

10 miles "\\approx" 16.09 km (10 × 1.609)"."
