A 3.0 N picture is hung by a nail with a loose string that makes an equilateral triangle with the edges of the frame. ( The nail and two sides of the picture form a triangle.) What is the tension in the string? (Hint: the nail acts like a pulley and each piece of string on each side of the nail holds 1/2 of the picture weight.)
A heavy mass on a frictionless ramp at an angle of 30 degrees drags a 2 kg mass upward using a pulley. if the tension in the rope is 30 N, what is the acceleration of the 2 kg mass?
A 50kg sled is pulled by a rope at an angle of 30 degrees above the horizontal with a force of 35 N. This force is just sufficient to keep the sled moving t a constant speed . What is the coefficient of sliding friction for the sled-snow surface?
A boy drags a box across the room with a strap at an angle of 25 degrees above the horizontal. The boy exerts a force of 10 N. If the mass of the box is 3 kg and the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.1, what is the acceleration of the box?
If a pipe of 125mm diameter has a venturi installed in it, with a throat diameter of half that of the pipe, and a discharge coefficient of 0.98, what would the pressure loss head be through the venturi be measured on a manometer with oil of 900kgm3. The main pipe has water of 1000kgm3. The mass flow into the pipe is 24.25 m/s. The answer I get is 3.1m indicated on the manometer. Thanks very muc
Hi, I have re arranged V2 = √2 (p1-p2)/p(1-(a2/a1)^2) to get p1-p2 and got p1-p2 = (v2^2/2 )*1000(1-(a2/a1)^2). I would like to know if that is correct. I am not the best at formulae transposition. (if it cant be seen on the screen, everything after V2= if the first part is under a square root) Thanks
I was wondering if i could get help with this problem:

Two billiard balls of equal mass undergo a head-on collision. The speed of ball 1 was initially 6.00 m/s to the right, and that of ball 2 was 8.00 m/s in the opposite direction (to the left). After they bounce off of each other the speed of ball 1 is 8.00 m/s.

What is the speed of ball 2 after the collision?
If 1 pascal equals 1Nm[sup]2[/sup]. Why does my fluids text book call it 1Nm[sup]-2[/sup]? Is it the same thing?
A car with mass 910 kg passes over a bump
in a road that follows the arc of a circle of
radius 37.5 m as shown in the figure.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2 .What is the maximum speed the car can
have as it passes the highest point of the
bump before losing contact with the road?
Answer in units of m/s.

car is 910kg
A cylindrically shaped piece of collagen (a substance found in the body in connective tissue) is being stretched by a force that increases from 0 to 0.0418 N. The length and radius of the collagen are, respectively, 2.69 cm and 0.0934 cm, and Young's modulus is 3.1 x 106 N/m2.
(a) If the stretching obeys Hooke's law, what is the spring constant k for collagen?
(b) How much work is done by the variable force that stretches the collagen?
