Eddy currents are electriccurrents induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field in the conductor. Electromagnetic damping is a retardation of motion that results from the reaction between eddy currents in a moving conductor and the magnetic field in which it is moving. Imagine a rotor conducting a certain current that revolves within a magnetic field, thus intersecting it. The change in the flux of the magnetic field will lead to induction of an eddy current and thus a deceleration in motion.
