A conductor carries a current that is equivalent to a 5-amp continuous current in one direction and a superimposed full-wave rectifier current in the opposite direction. What is the maximum value of the latter if the average conductor current is zero?

since average conductor current is zero, then current in the opposite direction:

I=0.637Imax=5I=0.637I_{max}=5 A


then maximum value of current in the opposite direction:

Imax=I/0.637=5/0.637=7.85I_{max}=I/0.637=5/0.637=7.85 A
