Escape velocity is a minimum velocity that an object must acquire in order to escape the gravitational attraction of a larger body. For example, if a rocket leaves the Earth at 11.2 km/s, it will be able to go to Mars or any other celestial body. Is the speed is less than 11.2, the rocket will not be able to leave the Earth and will orbit our planet in a circle or ellipse or will fall on Earth.
