The lithosphere (in Greek litho- means "stone-") is a rigid shell of the Earth forming its surface. Hence, if we count from the ground, the starting depth is 0 meters. But lithosphere extends to 70-100 km below the surface of the earth, so if we measure the depth from the center of the planet going to its surface, assuming its radius is 6375 km, the starting depth is 6375 - (70...100) = (6275...6305) km.
