Constructing a histogram entails subdividing the measurement axis into a suitable number of class intervals or classes, such that each observation is contained in exactly one class.

The class interval which contains the most values is known as the modal class.
When you have a set of numbers/counts, and cluster them into groups - i.e. classes - the modal class is the class with the highest frequency, i.e. the one having most “members”.
Therefore you may have a different modal interval from a classmate with the same data.
